The Blueberry Hill ADU is designed to minimize its impact on the site, located on a corner of a 20-acre lot in the Western Catskills, overlooking a creek. The structure is supported by helical piers, strategically positioned to preserve all existing trees.
With a 10’x10’ footprint, the Blueberry Hill ADU is fully off-grid and serviced by a custom utility shed. The shed houses solar panels and a battery bank, while rainwater and dew are collected into a UV-filtered cistern. A compost toilet efficiently manages waste.
This ADU is a study in functionality, offering sleeping space for four (including a pull-out sofa), a full kitchenette, a bathroom, and a woodstove within a 100-square-foot ground floor, plus an 80-square-foot loft.
The exterior features painted cedar shingles, high-performance windows and doors, and a custom standing seam metal roof. Inside, the ADU is finished with 8-inch-wide white oak flooring and white oak millwork. A European-style wet room combines the shower and compost toilet into an efficient bathroom space. Lighting and decor are sourced from local designers.
Outside, a wraparound deck overlooks the creek and includes areas for lounging, dining, and an outdoor shower.
