The President Aylwin mausoleum project is inserted in the historic area of the cemetery, with a contemporary proposal that is very respectful of its context, carrying out an underground project between the gardens. It was decided to intervene in the place with a project that distances itself from any historicist manifestation, thus responding to the condition of President Aylwin as a man of his time.
The project, carried out, is considered as an underground place, full of natural light, designed to be in harmony and tranquility, the mausoleum "disappears" among the gardens and the descent to it provides the necessary privacy and introspection for the visitor.

In plan, the project is formed by the superposition of a circle that symbolizes the divine; a square that means human creation since the right angle is the only thing that is not in nature and a triangle that symbolizes the holy trinity. the small building is built underground and opening to the natural light that pours in. The light that lets gravitate the forms of the reinforced concrete, through the element of the Cross and the five skylights, which symbolically represent the five sons of the president. The light enters the interior in a controlled and dim way, becoming the main element of the place. The materiality is exposed reinforced concrete, a sober, bare material, without any type of coating.

The undermined volume wants to represent the good of all, the common good so that the place continues to be a square, a condition that marked the life of President Aylwin: the search for the public good.
