Planned in collaboration with designers and owners Jonathan Goss and Cathy Ellegard, this compact footprint utilises skillfully crafted spaces to deliver a modest family home without compromising on design. Adaptive spaces can be opened up or closed down to suit the family’s needs, allowing the couple and their two children to live and work alongside each other.
The open plan living, dining and kitchen space forms the heart of the home, with generous ceiling and window heights drawing in light to create a feeling of openness. Socialising is oriented around the kitchen, with a window seat providing a moment of retreat and a spot to soak up the mountain views. The kitchen-dining space connects with outdoor entertaining areas, extending living spaces with a natural indoor-outdoor flow. A sunken lounge enhances the feeling of height. Here the living area has been angled to perfectly frame the expansive vistas across Lake Wakatipu towards Cecil Peak.
The home is evidence of the successful collaborative relationship between Architect and Client, crafted to perfectly suit the clients’ lifestyle and suggestive of their own personality. The result is a home that is warm, friendly, restful and comfortable.
