In a building constructed in the 1950s in one of Mexico City's most cosmopolitan areas, we transformed former offices into a contemporary housing development that adapts to the needs of modern life, aiming to create more accessible options for residents.
The building's recycling began with the rehabilitation of the existing structure. The original design was based on a column system without any load-bearing walls, allowing us to dismantle the existing finishes and create a new layout. In this way, we were able to give the space a new life without having to demolish and rebuild.
The design of the new façade responds to the complexities of the context to take advantage of the best views, generate cross-ventilation, improve solar exposure, and protect residents from noise. Another objective of the rehabilitation was to create flexible housing where users have privacy but can also appropriate the common spaces for their daily activities or simply to take a break from the fast-paced life we live.
