Known for its rows of charming houses, San Francisco is riddled with historic homes designed for a time gone by. To capture the city’s modern appetite while paying homage to the original architecture, we reinterpreted this family home, ushering it into the present day. The split-level house was completely gutted and rebuilt. Staying true to the neighborhood’s vernacular, the A-frame front facade was maintained but updated with contemporary detailing. The entire shell was restored with exposed steel beams framing backyard views. To fully capture the indoor outdoor lifestyle, spacious terraces, picture-framed windows, and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, maximize light and Bay breezes. An open floor plan allows for better circulation and is the backdrop for a glass-railing staircase, fireplace wall, and luxury finishes. An expansive great room with waterfall kitchen, and a master bath with a glass enclosed soaking tub, take in the views.
