From Studio BANAA

With a large open concept and a bright, airy interior, our cozy residence on
8th Ave in San Francisco appeals to those with a keen eye for design and

those keeping an eye out for their little ones. Remodeled for a growing family

of four, what was once a dreary, closed-off space has been transformed into a

multi-functional open concept.

The main living room level and kitchen space are the primary design focus of
the remodel. With the value of connectivity, places for conversing and gathering—

and most importantly—with openness and brightness in mind, Studio BANAA

tackled the very closed-off existing layout.

A dichotomy between old and new presents itself at the main level of the
house, balancing contemporary textures and finishes with a Victorian flare.

Walking through the space, one is able to pick out the change in the architectural

qualities and styles while immersing themselves in a truly unique,

cohesive design experience. While the front of the house embraces the old

crown moldings, highlights the classic fireplaces, and showcases existing

intricate hardwood flooring - the kitchen and dining area sport a more fresh,

modern look.

With the Scandinavian color and material theme, the palette for the “new
world” section of the house is carefully crafted to tailor to the desires of our client

for a clean look. Matte finish countertops and minimalist white upper cabinets

sit calmly next to touches of natural white oak open shelving and base

cabinets, while slatted wood paneling brings a flicker of rhythm and pattern to

the space. In the kitchen, large format Nasco terrazzo flooring lies underfoot.

By knocking down the barrier between the kitchen and dining rooms and
demolishing the small bathroom to plant a quaint breakfast nook with plenty

of storage, this growing family from the East Coast was able to achieve the

perfect place to raise their family—without sacrificing their love for interior

design.
