For a long time, an old building with two levels and a continuous façade, characteristic of the city center, was subjected to the weight of the structure of a large advertising sign on its roof and to a use that did not appreciate the values of the property and its context.
This construction is located in front of the city's main square and next to its cathedral, both relevant elements within the urban configuration and which are incorporated into the design as part of it.
The project of this bar/restaurant is configured on two levels; The first corresponds to the access and the preparation area in which a middle bar between the public area and the work area. Part of the kitchen is displayed towards the entrance and towards the street through a large opening that in its thickness houses a roof that looks towards the street and the square. The second floor corresponds to the living room, which is resolved in a single room, but with different instances determined by the centralized location of the staircase and by particular elements that provide different formats. On the other hand, a pre-existing balcony that runs the entire length of the façade is readjusted and transformed into the particular element of the premises, configuring itself as an elevated urban corridor that, under its inclined roof and aligned at the height of the adjoining building, is It has to enjoy the privileged views of the cathedral, the square and the city itself.
Finally, the design of this restaurant tries to value the elements of the place by displaying its structure and the textures of the pre-existing materials. The old masonry and the new ones are left in sight looking for the material integration with the building of the cathedral. The roof that configures the corridor resolves its structure in a light metal structure that contrasts with the heavy framework of the original beam left visible inside. A vine planter articulates the interior with the trees of the square, incorporating it in the definition of the enclosure and in the materialization of the relationship between the exterior and the interior.
