24FT3 (24-Foot Cube) is a compact dwelling with the footprint of a two-car garage and is a prototype for infill accessory dwelling units on typical urban single-family lots. Inside is an unexpected volume of space. The only enclosed rooms are the bathrooms. It has no bedrooms, only sleeping areas. Architecturally, it is a 4-square grid exercise marked by a post at the center of the floor plan that support beams which carry the second floor spaces – sleeping area, office and a bridge. The cube has a total of 915sf of walkable space. The goal was to endow the small object with the sensation of extending space and to capture light from the five exposed sides of the cube at once.
