Ways to Make a Modern Vignette
You may have heard the maxim "God is in the details"—and it's especially true when it comes to arranging your stuff. (Remember: There's a difference between an artful display and a hoarder-style collection!) Here are eight rooms that do justice to the modern vignette.
A vintage 1950s credenza discovered in Paris supports three works by Aumas and two Sol LeWitt–inspired cubes used in one of his window displays. The daybed is an eBay purchase reupholstered in fabric from Kvadrat and the dark paint is from Dulux Valentine. Aumas found the photographer’s lamp at a Brussels flea market.
Maurice “Maurie” McKenzie designed and inhabited this space designed for entertaining turned Borrego Springs weekend retreat. The pair of bedroom suites best reflect McKenzie’s groovy aesthetic: In the master bedroom, the bed is tucked into a recess in the center of the room flanked by two low stairs and fronted by a teak headboard and cabinet.
Serafini and Palomba’s vacation home is a cavernous showcase for their own designs. In the living room, they created a one-off version of their Lama chaise longue, originally designed for Zanotta. The Zen Apple side table, also theirs, is from the Sen Line Collection by Exteta. The vases are by Guaxs.
