Tiny and Compact ensuite Bathrooms

A whimsical hand-painted mural by local painter Rob Moss Wilson livens up the bathroom adjoining the outdoor tub.

The high-ceilinged bathroom receives natural light throughout the day, while porthole-type windows on both sides provide ventilation.

A long line of mirrors makes the compact bathroom feel more spacious.

A glass wall separates the toilet area and offsets an unfinished pine plywood wall in the bathroom.

Bathrooms were kept simple, with tile from the same line: Urban Atelier from Aleluia Cerâmicas, which has been in business for over 100 years.

The main floor bathroom was reduced in size to accommodate the new kitchen pantry. The three-quarter bath includes a custom floating walnut slab vanity, dark blue linen-textured tiles, and chrome accents.

The spa bathroom includes a hardwood paneled shower with a skylight overhead.

One of the largest construction challenges was the plumbing in the showers. "After our bathrooms were finally completed, we found water leakage coming out the base of both the showers," says Elaine. "Nothing seemed to solve the problem. It turned out it was a faulty plumbing job, so we had to open up the showers, fix the plumbing, and redo all the tadelakt." This set their timeline back by months.

“With their careful planning, use of light and color, and the elimination of all unnecessary elements, even the smallest room in the hotel feels spacious,” says Kurilenko.

The powder room is a retreat from the main living areas. The firm set off the Victorian ash storage and mirror unit by surrounding it with black hexagon tile. A "sky tunnel" in the ceiling floods the room with natural light.

The shower is enclosed in travertine and topped with a skylight.

10cm x 10cm white tiles line all the bathroom walls and floors. The same tiles pop up in the kitchen.

In the bathroom, the shower stall looks up to the open sky.

The ceramic tiles were created with irregular glaze, which mimics the reflections of the harbor nearby.
