The Monogram Modern Home Tour 2015
In 2015, Dwell and Monogram teamed up to bring the Monogram Modern Home, a custom prefab designed by Chris Pardo for Method Homes, on a tour across the country. The first stop was Portland followed by Los Angeles, Phoenix, Austin, Dallas, and Boston.
In the kitchen, a Heath Ceramics backsplash is paired with Smith & Vallee walnut veneer cabients and a Caesarstone Blizzard countertop. A suite of stainless-steel Monogram appliances rounds out the space. Pictured are the French Door Refrigerator, an Advantium Oven and Electronic Convection Single Wall Oven, and an Induction Cooktop with a Glass Canopy Hood.
The 825-square-foot structure is clad in AL13 aluminum rainscreen siding that can be cut-to-fit on site. "Because AL13 is a floating panel system, the panels can expand and contract as the temperature fluctuates without causing buckling or oil canning," David Gatringer of AL13 says. "Panel spacers and extrusions work together to create a rain screen, allowing any moisture to exit."
Christopher's advice for entertaining in a small space? "Stay organized. Know your kitchen and its limitations, as well as where it excels. Work efficiently and quickly so clutter and disorganization doesn’t slow you down. Oh and have fun—cooking isn’t brain surgery, so enjoy your time in the kitchen and definitely be sure to get out of it and make time for your guests!"
"The Monogram induction range keeps a consistent, un-changing temperature that is unparalleled by any other cooktop I’ve worked on. This makes it perfect for maintaining a pot of oil for frying, especially at a social cocktail party where you need a lot of food fast and can’t risk losing the perfect temperature."
"If you go to a restaurant that has an open-plan kitchen, you can almost instantly notice the flow of the kitchen," Christopher says. "Kitchens are a well-orchestrated dance. I feel that flow in the Monogram Modern Kitchen because the layout is just open enough that you can move seamlessly from the refrigerator, the sink, the stove, to the oven, and back to the counter to serve your guests."
