Drawing atmospheric inspiration from the city, Waechter Architecture infuses a hilltop home with panoramic Bay views, utilitarian finishes, and a bathroom that evokes a misty day.

The open kitchen and dining area are on the highest level of the house. At the center is an island sheathed in emerald cloud quartzite. “We decided to make it a beautiful object in the middle of the space, like a piece of art,” says Wagner.

SHED rebuilt the deck to have only two support posts, and an integrated planter faced with COR-TEN steel to tie into the front facade.

The home is currently being rented out to recoup some building costs, and the owners are considering a permanent move after their daughter leaves for college.

Honed marble counters sit atop custom walnut cabinets. The backsplash tile (Umi Calm in Rosemary from DDS Tile) is the first finish Chanel chose. "When I was trying to decide our direction for this house, that was really the first material that I came across that I was like, 'Okay, this is the vibe,'

The food prep area sits adjacent to a small dining area in the middle structure of the three. Black Richlite countertops complement a white tile backsplash and maple cabinetry. The induction cooktop is from Bosch and the faucet is Grohe.

In the Dank Lounge, a film screen lowers in front of room-darkening curtains on movie nights. The deep sectional was built by Lizz and Isaac while the Blob coffee table is by Project Room, and the Scandinavian rya rug is vintage. The couple’s art collection includes works by many friends and local artists. A print by Alex Smith, along with drawings by Cammie Staros and Karl Haendel, hang in the lounge beside a painting by John Finneran and a photo by Lizz.
