Knight designed a window seat that extends from inside to out once the window is opened. The window is a Sunflex Tilt & Turn unit by HBD Systems.

Before: This wall was pushed out substantially.

More glass connects the interior living spaces to the backyard, which overlooks the River Ver.

A wood reveal around the window adds warmth to the facade.

Knight juxtaposed two different brick patterns, with stacked bond above and below the openings, and running bond elsewhere.

Before: The rear wall of the house was extended several meters so that all of the shared living spaces could be allotted to the back of the house.

The wall tiles are Carter Ceramic Rose tiles by Ca’Pietra, in a herringbone pattern. The vanity unit is from Parker & Howley, supplied by Tinkletorium.

In the shower, there's Zellige Sky Gloss Ceramic Tiles by Mandarin Stone, and fittings from Tinkletorium.

Before: Simon and Jo had this small bedroom converted to a bathroom to form a proper primary suite.

Before: When Simon and Jo Bryant bought this detached estate house in St. Albans, England, in 2023, the kitchen was at the front of the house.

Matthew previously fabricated custom furniture for a decade, so built all of the kitchen cabinets, banquette and table, and island. The latter is made of a 120-year-old beam from the house that had to be replaced. Matthew counted the rings and surmises it was from a tree that started growing before the American Revolution. The perimeter counters are cherry and Butcher designed the upper cabinet to float over the window, which casts sunlight through the glassware and rainbows over the room.

Furniture built by Matthew, such as the wall-hung unit holding the stereo, is mixed with antiques, like the foyer table once belonging to Matthew’s great-grandfather, and the couple’s extensive art collection. “We have a lot of art by Seattle artists,” says Holly.

During: Removing the carpet revealed the footprint of the original bay window, so Matthew and Holly decided to restore it.
