One of Bayne's biggest splurges was the tilework in the bathrooms.

Playful wallpaper from Graham & Brown livens up the house’s otherwise staid powder room, which also contains a pint-size Ikea sink.

Work It “We wanted to open up the back of the house, but there’s nothing to look at,” says Dana. “So we decided to put something in our yard as a focal point, to create our own view.” The architects came up with a glass-walled studio, which Dana uses as her home office. The architects mounted a steel I-beam that spans the yard, with holes drilled at eight-inch intervals for maximum flexibility of use. “I love how we dealt with the drainage on this very unique roof,” says Marshall. “There are these beautiful rain chains coming down from the valleys.They’re functional and they look really, really cool.”

Bordering a 17-acre agricultural preserve, the home’s surroundings are historically agrarian—something the Workshop/APD referenced in the gabled form. “The gables speak to that language, as does the metal roof,” says Marshall.

Their bathroom has floor-to-ceiling sage tiles in the shower, coordinating with the green shade used in the kitchen.

Unsure of how to light under the loft, Monica turned to a friend from the gym who works in lighting design. He helped her with the design, the installation, and even gifted her materials.

A simple shed-like form disguises a taste for the contemporary and detailed craftsmanship.

The house is set in an untended orchard that had to be trimmed back and sometimes produces thousands of apples.

The windows direct views all the way through the front facade through to the western exposure.
