Night Sky On my last night in Lo Manthang, I climbed to the roof of the inn we were staying at. When I looked up, this is what I saw. I've seen skies illuminated by thousands of stars in places such as Greenland and northern Canada, but never was the sky as impressive as it was here. I spent an hour or so shooting long exposures with a tripod.

In this shot, the promise of the emerging structure is clearly visible: intersecting granite and concrete walls demonstrate the harmonious triumverate of sky, stone and concrete.

Kocher designed the Studies Building and other campus structures so that they could be built by faculty and students. These projects made use of new construction methods and materials without sacrificing modernist simplicity.

Despite the economic downturn, the city is still booming with construction—as evidenced by the fleet of cranes on the horizon.
