The gallery has a new whitewashed pine roof that covers the main villa, which includes two one-bed suites and one of the property’s three and a half kitchens. “We think it was a little church before,” says architect Yashar Yektajo. The brick was stripped of plaster from a prior renovation. “It was completely rotten because there’s so much humidity here,” he adds. “Now the brick can breathe, and the whitewash brings it together.” Pinto, one of the couple’s two dogs, rests under a coffee table Ernesto and Ellen designed. The gallery is lined with original arches that lead to the courtyard.

A brick hearth designed by Winter was updated with a gas fireplace. The couple redid the kitchen without enlarging it, in an effort to stay true to Winter’s plan. “We were trying to do a modern version of what would feel right in a house designed in the ’70s,” explains Rick.

The owners converted two former bedrooms into one enlarged primary suite, featuring a neutral and calm palette.

In the kitchen, recycled PET cabinetry from IKEA and Corian countertops play to the upcycling element of LOT-EK's ethos. A Swell Wide pendant by Pablo Pardo illuminates a custom dining table by From the Source and the surrounding Redsmith dining chairs from Anthropologie.

The homeowners' existing furnishings meld tradition with contemporary elements, echoing the architectural expression of the new structure.

The revived home sits in a secluded, wooded neighborhood that adjoins Forest Park. A massive trail system, including a trailhead, is just a short walk from the property.

Before: The kitchen had been remodeled in the 90s and the finishes, like the faux-stone tile floors, didn’t align with the couple’s style.

The primary bathroom is accented with pendant lamps by Schoolhouse, a vintage wooden stool, and custom oak cabinetry with a travertine top.

The revamped kitchen includes custom oak cabinets, quartz countertops and an H.D. Buttercup Lounge Chair as an accent.

The fireplace is covered in Norman brick from Mutual Materials, in an era-appropriate stacked pattern.
