Located at the bottom of a quiet cul de sac in North Dublin, this modest mid-terraced, red brick house was constructed in the early 20th century.
Prior to refurbishment, the house was in poor repair and suffering from severe damp ingress. The ground floor, in particular, was dark and the existing layout of small individual reception rooms was not suitable for contemporary living.
The stairs were relocated from the entrance hall to the rear of the house. This simultaneously opened the living space to the full width of the plan and allowed the creation of a 7m high light well which brings natural light into the heart of the home. A small ground floor extension with a large sliding door creates a connection between the new living space and garden.
A restrained palette of natural materials features throughout the design. The entire ground floor is finished seamlessly in polished concrete, with an oak stairs and island. An original brickwork wall and arch have been exposed and carefully restored, forming a threshold between old and new.
