“The entire house is unified with oak flooring with a custom warm gray stain. This material is repeated on the stair and atrium handrails,” Walker said. The entryway’s bench has a custom Tabu Caleidolegno veneered wood base. The upholstered bench seat, which uses black Kravet fabric, was designed by Ruhl Walker Architects and made by Herrick & White.

The entry in this Greenwich Village townhouse is wide enough to resemble a “street” where family members interact throughout the day.

The wall finish in the foyer leading to the terrace is custom-crafted plasterwork from Surface & Architecture and Workshop.

“We originally gave Brothers Cement an orange color that they couldn't match exactly, but we ended up with that beautiful yellow color, so we were happy,” Barker says.

The firm tucked an entry bench into the curved wall to create an easy spot for taking off shoes by the door, then lined the passageway with shelves. A curved bench under the stairs creates a nook.

Near the front door, charred oak treads float on a blackened steel stringer to the master suite and on to the roof.

The built-in millwork is by LCK Enterprises.

A steel elevator, wrapped by a staircase, anchors the home and descends downstairs to the bunk room.

A sculptural lilac trunk—which is over a hundred years old—hangs on the entry wall and serves as inspiration for the interior color palette.

The entry floor now boasts the striking Hex Clip pattern from Clé Tile. Horner also installed custom shelving and a floating bench, both fabricated from birch plywood.
