Slatted wooden ceilings add visual interest.

The architects lined the hallway adjacent to the kitchen with oak storage cabinets.

The open-plan living area is outfitted with a sectional, large format porcelain tile flooring, and an integrated oak storage bench and shelving.

The reading nook is on the other side of the top floor—the sleeping area is in the middle between this area and the tub.

Though the views of the lush forest are the stars of the show here, Patnaik's art collection has a presence here too, including a diptych by Kokil Gupta that hangs above a low-slung grey sofa.

The great room acts as a kind of fulcrum for the L-shaped house: the vaulted apex of its roof and ceiling, and a combined living-dining-kitchen space for the clients and their children to gather.

Wooden accents continue into each of the four bedrooms, presenting natural warmth and texture to both complement and contrast the architectural concrete construction.

The combined kitchen and dining room, featuring two pieces of family-heirloom furniture, feel spacious thanks to a vaulted ceiling; it and the walls are clad in Douglas fir.

To save space in the bedroom, Molly and her partner, Ryan Scott, designed a bed frame that nests into the corner. Drawers at the foot of the bed add storage, and a bench doubles as a side table.

Bright Designlab designed the custom walnut island, fabricated by Maple Key. A Workstead light hangs overhead.

Wooden beams and a curved wall of floor-to-ceiling windows connect the main living areas.

Original beams lining the ceilings of the living areas elongates the overall sense of space.

“To allow natural light to flood the interior space on the north side, which tends to be dark, a high sidelight was installed at the top of the vaulted roof structure, and a skylight was also installed directly above the staircase,” shares Senior Architect Shohei Hatori.

A cozy study with custom banquette and Japanese elm table is located on the north side of the living room.
