garden level great room

Designed for a professional couple with young children, this project transforms a partial basement into a great room that contains a family/entertainment space, a home office, a bathroom, a kitchenette, a laundry closet, and a mud room. From the traditional main floor, one enters this modern lower level via floating stairs with treads crafted from solid reclaimed oak. Smooth cedar panels clad the downstairs ceiling and reach up the walls of the stairwell. The warm tone of the oak casework contrasts with the matt charcoal color concrete floor. Wall of glass and sliding doors connect the space to the outdoor.
