A Look Inside 7 Venice Beach Homes
Often, the interiors of houses in Venice, California, are as free-spirited as the exteriors. Here are 7 from our archives that will remind you to embrace your inner bohemian.
Showcasing his mastery of light, Monti designed these Cor-ten curtains to modulate the light that enters the home, creating a dappled effect all throughout the house. “Light is such a great resource in California and architects tend to lose that when they look into a space,” says Monti.
Not one to waste any resource, Monti also re-purposed the circular cutouts into a staircase balustrade that adds an artistic element to the home.
At the same time she annexed the trailer, Siegal opened up the master bedroom to include a new bath and laundry room. “The house hadn’t been touched since the 1920s—it had lots of tiny little rooms,” says Siegal of the home she bought in 2002. “But I loved that yard, and I thought, I could make this place really great.” Her latest addition
is a two-story workspace where the garage once stood.
Create circulation and connectivity. It's important to ensure that people can effortlessly transition from the kitchen to the living room and dining areas, and vice versa. If you have a patio, garden, balcony, or courtyard, site your kitchen next to (or near) these areas so that dining alfresco can be an option. By designing a kitchen with good circulation and connectivity, the crowd will naturally spill over to other areas of your home.
