Floor Plan of Boathouse by Prentiss Balance Wickline Architects
A daybed next to the fireplace is the closest thing to a place to sleep.
A custom mini kitchen is designed to entertain the client and their guests.
Intended primarily as a social gathering place, the house has no dedicated bedrooms.
In cooler weather, radiant heating is embedded beneath the wood floors.
Instead of air conditioning, triple-glazed sliding windows passively cool the inside.
The balcony extends the usable area of the house, which mainly serves as a place to experience the water's edge.
Narrow columns support the structure and dock, allowing sunlight to nourish eelgrasses along the shoreline.
From upland, the Boathouse has a minimal appearance, limiting its impact on the wilderness.
The large overhang limits sun exposure in warmer months and the triple glazed windows open up to passively cool the inside.
The new building has slightly less square footage and is nested within the same area as the original foundation.
A series of logs propped up the previous structure and blocked sunlight on the shoreline.
Hand-poured concrete and an assemblage of Creosote-soaked logs and tires supported the structure.
The existing boathouse had been hand built by the previous owner in the late 1960s.

Sitting lightly above the eelgrass, this tiny dwelling serves as a port of entry for a family getaway on the Salish Sea.
Built-in barbecue, fire pit

New floors and windows were installed throughout the home during the recent renovation.
