The Beam House is an ode to the classic indoor/outdoor California lifestyle, and it riffs on the architecture of Orange County. Its walls are clad in clean-lined vertical siding and topped with clerestory windows. The flat roof sports pronounced eaves.
archimania, an award-winning architecture firm based in Memphis, was inspired by a matchbook when they designed the DOGone House for a rescue charity event. An outer skin of one-fourth-inch folded steel wraps an inner box composed of slatted stained wood, which allows air circulation and views.
The steel sheet is finished with durable automotive paint in a light color to reflect sun. The boxes can be separated for easy cleaning.
Artist Judson Beaumont runs the Vancouver–based studio Straight Line Designs, which now offers handmade and custom-built pet campers, which are a playful twist on iconic trailer shapes.
Beaumont treats each camper like a sculpture, customizing the designs to the occupants—for example, with personalized license plates. Indoor use is recommended for optimal longevity.
Bad Marlon is a product design studio in South Korea that specializes in minimalist accessories for humans and their pets. The Deauville dog house combines plywood and powder-coated steel.
The perforated steel fosters air flow and lets the dog see out easily. The house arrives flat-packed and is assembled with powerful magnets.
Rah: Design was founded by Rahil Taj as a multidisciplinary design and fabrication studio in Los Angeles. The MDK9 Dog Haus pairs Brazilian teak and powder-coated steel with a concrete base. Taj left no detail unconsidered in the design, partnering with Modern House Numbers for customizable name plaques, as well as Jax & Bones for luxe memory foam bedding.
The Dog Room, designed by architect Michael Ong in collaboration with Australian outfit Made by Pen, modernizes the classic dog house silhouette via a lightweight, E-coat aluminum frame that supports panels made of marine OSB or marine plywood. Memory foam bamboo charcoal mattresses are available in grey, pink, or green.
The simple form of the Dog Room lets it blend in with a range of styles, for interior or exterior use.
Kelly Wearstler offers an unconventional take on the dog house with this arched shape in cerused Douglas fir. That signature Wearstler flair is incorporated via a bed upholstered in Kelly Wearstler Outdoor Fabric and a bronze insignia stamped with the designer’s kiss motif.
1118 Woof Ranch by Pijuan Design Workshop keeps your pup cool—inside or out. A wide eave protects a deck covered in artificial turf, while also providing passive ventilation for the interior.
An interior window enables the dog to monitor its surroundings.
Every aspect of 1118 Woof Ranch can be customized—from the color of the siding to the placement of the integrated dog bowls.
