After working on a few house flips for a real estate firm, architectural designer Grey Shaeffer was looking for a new creative outlet—and she found it in her own backyard. In 2018, the designer started drawing plans for an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) and office to be built behind her home in Portland, Oregon.
