From the agent: "West Coast Modern presents the Kit House, a fully upcycled midcentury-modern in scenic Lynn Valley, North Vancouver. The recipe for stunning midcentury renovations is part love-at-first-sight and part grit—and this is exactly the story of the Kit House. The original-condition 1968 house was once heavy with awkward alterations and likely slated for demolition. Saved from imminent havoc by a young fashion couple who saw the great bones in it, the house has been updated to the studs and turned into what we believe as one of the brightest midcentury home renovations of the year. With 360 degrees of greenery out every window, open-concept living, and a complete redesign that’s gracing the pages of the world’s top design publications, the Kit House is now ready for its next custodians."

The 1960s residence at 1152 Chamberlain Drive in North Vancouver, British Columbia, underwent a down-to-the-studs remodel in 2018 by the current owners, Nick and Marie.

For the remodel of the two-level home, now dubbed the Kit House, Nick and Marie maintained the original post-and-beam ceiling with cedar slats, as well as the full-height brick fireplace.

The residents removed a wall dividing the kitchen, living, and dining areas to open up the existing small and dark rooms and create one large, light-filled space.

"The thing everyone says when they come check out our house is: ‘Look at that view,’" says Marie. "They see this open space and immediately just look out and see the mountains and all the trees."

The updated kitchen includes custom Fenix millwork by RBM Builders in Vancouver. White oak engineered hardwood floors complement the birch-plywood details. "We thought it was a really nice nod to what the house used to be," says Nick. "It worked well with some of the elements that we kept with the house, like the beams. And we really liked the contrasting white."

An oversize island with a marble countertop sits below a large skylight.

Nick and Marie, who both work in fashion, incorporated Herman Miller, Muuto, and Bocci lighting throughout the 1968 home.

"Our initial inspiration was to just have a really bright, open, family friendly house," says Nick. The lower level of the three-bedroom residence includes an in-law suite with an additional bedroom, bath, kitchen, and living area.

A large skylight illuminates one of the two bathrooms on the main floor.

Recessed shelves in the bathroom echo the plywood details in the kitchen.

In the back of the home, a slanted cedar deck leads from the kitchen to an outdoor patio and large yard. The front of the residence includes a spacious deck with glass railings that is positioned above the garage and overlooks a granite rock garden.

"It’s a very nice place to raise a family," Nick says of the Kit House.

1152 Chamberlain Drive in North Vancouver, BC, Canada, is currently listed for $2,699,000 CAD (roughly US $2,095,773) by Trent Rodney and Jason Choi of West Coast Modern.
