In the primary bedroom, side tables are built into the wall and the bed is custom-made for the space. “Everything had to be custom because of space constraints,” says Madison. “A custom home kind of requires custom furniture to make the most of every inch.”
Blue Dot stools sit at the custom table. The sofa is from Joybird. Kitchen lighting was sourced from 143 Lighting.
The pool is a new addition to the house, along with the other 2025 renovations.
There was only one owner of the home before real estate developers Claire and Sam O'Connor purchased it.
Local firm Ome Dezin saved this midcentury home’s post-and-beam ceilings and brick fireplace while bringing in ribbed grass, a circular skylight, and a built-in kitchen banquette.

Inspired by dance classes Asawa took with Merce Cunningham at Black Mountain College, the Dancers motif seen above (oil on paper, 1948-49) is one of several abstractions of dancing figures Asawa produced, highlighting her exploration of physical motion. The interlocking forms hint at her development of nesting and layering techniques in future sculptural work.
The lightly refreshed midcentury has tongue-and-groove ceilings, a large central atrium, and a backyard filled with fruit trees.
"We both like to cook a lot, so we really need a kitchen that provides us that opportunity," Jeffrey says. There's ample room for food prep here between the 17-foot countertops (laid over cabinets made of Ikea bases and Reform drawers) plus a kitchen island sourced from Community Forklift.

A black and white Angela Adams rug anchors the entryway space, which includes two chairs bought at auction and an Ikea floor lamp.
The couple's son requested a blue and white palette for his bathroom, which was achieved with blue Clé tiles, a bathtub from Perlato, and a Duravit toilet.
A giant multicolored Endless Sofa from Bensen takes up the first floor living room, accompanied by poufs and a My Beautiful Backside Sofa from the same brand. The suspended paper lights are by Foscarini.
A dining area where Eric and Jeffrey are known to host friends at monthly Shabbat dinners. The Mira Nakashima dining table is paired with Risom dining chairs and an Angela Adams rug. Overhead hangs a Brian Richer for Castor LED light and an Arturo Alvarez "Tina" feather pendant.
This living space on the second floor includes Knoll chairs and ottomans, a collection of blown glass, artwork from Linda Lowery, and an Armadillo rug. "I sit and read in the Womb chairs a lot, while our dog Penny snuggles up next to me," Jeffrey says.
The gaps in the slabs formed by the U-shaped pieces are filled with clerestory windows that add to the natural light. Here, the lounge is by BoConcept and the table is by Estudio Diario.
Although aux boxes were originally designed as detached one-room structures of around 100 square feet, they now offer the larger Model 240 and Model 620. (The model number denotes its footprint in square feet).
Ed learned to build through first working on a home in Cornwall. Drawing from the Segal method, a self-build approach popular with timber-frame spaces, the design later inspired Ed’s garden retreat.

At the southeast corner of the house, in an enclosed yard beside the entrance, is a breakfast nook and patio, providing the home's quietest outdoor space.
The kitchen was designed to be functional, for a family of five that likes to cook. Cabinetry and countertops resemble the colors of the wall panels and metal framing.
The home embraces indoor-outdoor living, with glass walls that slide away and the same flooring continuing from indoors to out (simply without grout outdoors).
Limestone flooring and wainscotting underscore the rammed-earth walls.
The panels were fabricated using sand quarried from the site, which was mixed with a small amount of cement and dried in layers, each showing a slightly different hue.
The dining and living space are a few steps down from the rest of the house, creating a wider volume for these public areas.
The interior wall clad in rammed-earth panels also acts as a radiant heat source during the evening, which is welcomed in this cool, windy Carmel microclimate.
