Appearing like a giant oculus from above, the Gemasolar Thermosolar Plant in Seville, Spain, is a solar concentrator containing 2,650 heliostat mirrors that focus the sun's thermal energy to heat molten salt, which is then circulated to produce steam and electricity. A 1959 advertisement for the Lounge set emphasizes its comfort. Another ad from the era reads “A good chair, nowadays, is hard to find,” and suggests that it’s “the only modern chair designed to relax you in the tradition of the good old club chair.” Charles took on the project because he was “fed up with the complaints that modern isn’t comfortable.”
Since the 1990s, the Blue Lagoon has welcomed visitors to soak in water heated by the geothermal plant situated just next door. A new hotel and revamped facilities are coming in 2017.
