Floor Plan of Stealth House by Specht Novak Architects
The OSB-clad living and sleeping area leads to a bold blue bathroom in this renovated home in Albino, in the Lombardy region of Northern Italy. The white fittings and fixtures in the bathroom echo the retro white cabinet handles used in the kitchen.
Martin designed and built the partition between the bedroom and living area (a bookcase on one side and a wardrobe on the other) to allow air and light to flow through the 474-square-foot space. The living area has a rug from Pampa and vintage Narvik seating designed by Fler and restored by Martin.
White penny tiles reflect natural light in the bathroom.
An expansive picture window frames the natural surround in the living room, where a built-in sofa and bench provide perches for soaking in views and sunlight.
The open-tread spiral staircase was chosen in response to the tight site—it allows light through, and the space beneath it is still useable.

The couple chose hardy materials such as concrete blocks and galvanized steel and raised the floor 1.9 meters to keep the new build safe. The sleek, charred-wood cladding is an additional flood-resilience measure.

The living area feels spacious and full of light despite its modest square footage thanks to its being double-height. A collection of old ship paintings and vintage ship netting help add to the nautical feel.
