A built-in banquette was designed to allow for views of the bi-weekly lakefront fireworks while also providing ample seating for the dining area within a fairly compact footprint.
A millwork island provide storage for books and collected art on one side and the reverse provides a ventless fireplace and vinyl record storage.

To reflect light around the room, Alper chose to use two shades of white in this space. The warmer of the two, Cotton Balls, was used on the walls.
Local materials and a restrained, natural palette allow the surroundings to sing at this family getaway.
Kara Van Dyke breathed new life into an A-frame built 30 years ago by her grandfather. The family home now features rustic modern decor inspired by Kara’s Scandinavian roots.
“When you’re doing a second home, a lot of the character of the design is defined by what it isn’t,” says architect Greg Howe, as a way of explaining the minimalistic approach that was taken on this Michigan weekend home. “If you think of it as cold, you have to remember, the setting, and accessing nature, is the point.”
