The pristine environs of the Turett's Greenport home makes it a sanctuary, between the verdant green spaces and the sea beyond.
In turning the second level of the garage behind their duplex into a multifunctional workspace without breaking the bank, Kyle Huberty relied on friends, family, and the community at large.
Rossi did not carry the dividing wall between the bedroom and living room all the way up to the ceiling, so as not to break up the treatment up there, instead designing the wall as a custom storage and display unit.
The kitchen now has much more counter space, thanks to the new layout, with a quartz slab Rossi found on “super sale.” The pantry doors are repurposed, and the backsplash is a terracotta tile that the designer has had in storage since 2017.
Some of the furnishings came from the homeowners’ Dallas home, including the wooden chairs they purchased 35 years ago. The sofa is the Madison Sleeper Sofa from Bo Concept, while the side table is from Target. The lamp is from CB2. A British, antique officer’s cabinet contrasts with a modern bookshelf from Crate and Barrel.
Black-and-white walls, polished basalt floors, and oak ceilings give the interiors a simple, pared-back aesthetic that allow the nature outdoors to take center stage.
There is a studio space on the upper level of one of the volumes, above the dining area.
The design allows each volume to assert its independence while interacting with the other buildings in a rhythmic sequence.
The walkways provide access to the patio and the landscape beyond the property, offering views along the way.
The U-shaped floorplan wraps around a sunny central courtyard.

More than 60 plant species were used in the layered design.

In 2014, Jeff and Karen Gunning began researching building another house, hoping to create a single, contained volume without compromising their retirement funds. The resulting Tree House comprises three pitched volumes with cutaways to create a porch in phase one and recessed window planter ledges in phase two. Simple wood columns provide support.
The primary bathroom is located at the center of the plan, and a clerestory window above a white oak panel ensures light flows inside.
Pam and Frank recently tasked Light and Air Architecture with remodeling this loft in New York City to get better natural light. “That’s exactly what we were looking for, is light and air,” says Frank.
The other two bedrooms are just as airy, complete with expansive, floor-to-ceiling glazing.
