The bathroom features simple black hex tile on the floor and white tile laid in a grid on the walls. The custom vanity is fir, in keeping with the rest of the home’s material palette.

Skylights placed between the existing eaves fill the new bathroom with light. “That was a moment where we thought that we could tie in our changes to the house seamlessly with the old design,” says Marsh. “When the light goes over the skylight, it creates different shadow lines.”

Behind the large sliding pivot panels lies a hidden laundry—one of Yuan’s favorite features. "I love it because it functions as a large laundry space when I need it, but the sliding pivot doors allows me to hide it all away when we have visitors over," says Yuan.

Cool, gray-toned cement tile grounds the palette for the new bathroom and syncs it with the rest of the house.

The contractors working on the project started referring to the bathroom as a "jewel box" because of the meticulous attention required to piece it together. "The 1" x 1" Japanese porcelain tiles were laid out in a grid that aligns with every element in the bathroom," says Eng-Goetz. "For example, the bathroom sink aligns with the adjacent grout lines, as do the inset cabinet doors below." The cabinetry is white-washed red oak and the vanity lights are by Anastassiades.

The renovation introduced green cement floor tile from Clé, a custom vanity with triangular brass pulls, and square wall tile that echoes the ceiling pattern.

Because they were working with a modest budget, Casework left the bathroom plumbing fixtures in their original locations (aside from the showerhead).

The new bathroom features Terrazzo flooring from Concrete Collaborative and gorgeous green tiles from Heath Ceramics.

She had a vessel sink and a Delta faucet in champagne bronze incorporated into the vintage dresser.

In the shower, handmade "bubble hex

The new color palette combines a medley of hues, including mustard, mint, rusty orange, and lavender. The bathroom floor, tiled with oversized flowers, is paired with a plaid shower curtain. The client encouraged the firm to stretch here: “I think we originally had something with a bit less color, but she was always pushing us,” says Merrill. “It was so fun.”

Bright yellow tile now surrounds the tub picked out by the owners at the beginning of the remodel process. They wanted this room to feel "like a spa or a happy place to retreat to," says Reeves.

The hallway to the bathroom is flanked by walk-in closets.

Marble mosaic flooring from New Ravenna covers the floor and runs over the bench under the window, another spot for Charlie and Todd’s young daughter to perch. The walls are glazed American quarry tile by Design and Direct Source.

The bathroom features custom black-and-white Carrara marble flooring.

With the visible structure and piping of the tub and sink, the bathroom is a visual echo of the exposed trusses in the extension.

Cheng specified brass schluter inlay between the terrazzo tiles at the floor. "These are installed in an offset Y pattern, which is the first letter of their last name," says the designer.

Ann Sacks terrazzo tile covers the floor and backsplash. The sinks were fabricated by a local artisan, Cement Elegance.

The team had a lot of discussions with the owner on the striped pattern of the Moroccan tile in the main bathroom, which makes the space feel larger and blends the green and cream palette used throughout the house.

The courtyard extends the sense of space in the main bathroom, and although the latter is in a central location in the narrow building, the courtyard brings in that much more light than is typical in a floorplan like this. The floor tile is the Krista Watterworth Kiss Marble ’ tile, and the owners can also open the exterior door there should they want to shower al-fresco.

The floor tile is from Virginia Tile, while the wall tile is from Daltile.

Now, a walk-in shower and soaking tub are tucked under the roof line.

Outside, a pair of moveable six-foot-square cedar decks also come with the sale and can be packed inside of the home for traveling. LED lights, various hookups, and an outdoor shower round out the exterior features.

A full bathroom along the back of the lower level features a shower and toilet outfitted for septic hookup. The space also features a washer/dryer unit in the opposite corner.

Both the interior and exterior of this Japandi tiny home feature contrasting shades of black and natural wood tones, which homeowner Stephen Proctor first imagined after picking up a Theo coffee mug and teapot by the brand Stelton. The matte-black ceramic base and simple bamboo handle and lid inspired him to mimic the combination throughout the tiny home.

A closer look at the kitchen area, where leather cabinet pulls and open shelving complement wood counters and a custom stair railing. Stephen’s inspirational tea pot and mug sit along a shelf above the bathroom doorway.

In a sunlit corner, a wooden desktop sits on black trestles from IKEA. "I first created the desk setup to mimic the mug and teapot, which Stelton describes it as 'Scandinavia meets Japan,'" explains Stephen. "Similarly, the overall design [of the tiny home] intended to honor the spirit of Japanese tea culture while incorporating the style of Nordic minimalism."

Inside, the approximately 330-square-foot space features two lofts at either end. The home is currently outfitted with a mix of designer furnishings, which can be negotiated in the sale.

"I wanted a simpler, more contemplative life," says Stephen Proctor, who left Nashville to continue work as a visual artist from the remote Pacific Northwest. But after being targeted by a hard-nosed permitting official, he faced too many unknowns, ultimately deciding to sell the home. "I didn't want to fight them or have to blaze a new trail—that’s not why I got into the tiny home thing," he says.

In the en suite, a black Victoria + Albert tub (with matching black American Universal penny tile) makes the perfect spot to soak up the view—though the shower curtains that line the windows can be drawn for a little more privacy. A shower head is mounted off to the right.

The freestanding garage also houses an art studio and meditation space.
