Named after a foothill between the agrarian Champlain Valley and the Green Mountains, the Chipman Hill house has an exterior of untreated local white cedar boards, fiber cement panels, corrugated sheet metal and translucent polycarbonate. Local pine and maple flooring and interior millwork, interrupted by areas of Vermont slate constitute the home's interior.

Through an integral relationship between use, form, and material, the Low/Rise House responds sensitively to site, nature, and neighborhood, creating a new type of suburban living – both urban and rural.
