Everything brought to the island must be transported by boat or barge, so furniture is minimal. Carsten purchased the 1960 Rais wood stove more than a decade ago with the intention of using it in a cabin one day.
The walls are covered in Portola Paints Roman Clay in ‘Anchor,’ and the floors are Bedrosians penny tile.

Inside, a floating staircase of steel and lapacho wood helps maintain the home’s openness. The benches, bookshelves, and A-frame coatrack are by Teresa and Nico’s design firm, La Base Studio.
For the built-ins, Rossi created a combination of open and closed storage, with arched niches, mahogany doors, and a fireplace inserted below the television. The support beam on the end was salvaged from the property.

Pau (left, with Victoria) was inspired by small but functional spaces from around the world that maximize their natural surroundings, such as traditional wood-framed cabins in Norway and tiny Uruguayan beach homes. In the kitchen, the countertop in Blizzard is from Caesarstone and the appliances are from Jenn-Air.
Behind the glass facade is the couple’s workshop. The bicycles are prototypes they designed and use as their primary means of transportation. Called Metro-Pedals, they’re built of lightweight aircraft steel and feature interchangeable cargo accessories, low maintenance internal gears, and hydraulic brakes. “They’re the ultimate utility vehicle for the modern metropolis,” says Chris.
Built in 2013, the boat has a large, timber-framed skylight that bathes the space in light, while creating the perfect place to grow plants.

When Klein Agency reorganized the kitchen plan, they carved out room for a new half bath. Walls are coated in pink Roman Clay plaster.
In the bathroom, the floor is covered in custom concrete tile from Mexico. The vanity is a vintage piece topped with a concrete sink basin.
The new bathroom has Cle tile and custom limestone sinks that Emily found in a chance search online. "Marblebasinhub.com. They have incredible, incredible sinks," she says.
The backsplash and counters are Caesarstone, and a floating white oak shelf was positioned flush with the hood vent for a cleaner look.
The pair borrowed a little space on the front porch and expanded the kitchen into the breakfast nook, so the sink now looks out on the front yard and old olive tree.
Lime plaster walls lend rich texture in all of the rooms of the home, including the casual dining space which is outfitted with built-in shelving.
In the upstairs bedroom, built-in shelving surrounding the window frames provides storage space for books and mementos.

The home offers constant glimpses of the laneway through both strategically placed windows and the single paling fencing. “We loved living on the laneway—it was a circus day and night,” says architect-owner Chris Stanley. “There is a real permeability to the whole site and that was so important for us.”
Enormous windows allow light to flood the interior, while carefully framed views of the garden blur the boundaries between interior and exterior. The deep concrete bathtub in the downstairs bathroom, for example, offers views of both internal and external gardens.
