Penny tiles in two colors cover the walls in the wet room on the second floor where wall-mounted plumbing fixtures preserve countertop space atop the solid brass sink.
Old doors and mismatched hardware from an old nunnery in Massachusetts carry stories from the past forward. “There is something nice about living with reused materials and taking advantage of the hours of labor put into the old stuff we salvaged,” Caleb says.
“Sometimes you go with emotions rather than logic,” says Woodhull founder Caleb Johnson. “I just wanted to renovate the little Pizza Hut look-alike my son told me looked like a blowfish.”
The original layout was very much of the time: a perfect midcentury modern flow, with a closed-off kitchen and a fire put in the floor. “They were cool but impractical spaces,” says Schaer.
"Some people want a manicured garden, but I'm of a different mindset," says Patnaik. She left the grounds untamed and organic. "If we're building in the wild, I want to live in the wild."
The oak countertops in the kitchen are the same as the flooring.

Located off paved roads, across a river, and up a mountain, Pablo Pérez Palacios’s cabin in the Mexican wilderness has a rooftop terrace designed for entertaining.
Originally the floor plan had the door to the bathroom tucked over to one side to make way for a stationery bed. Perpetually Devastated reconfigured the layout for more comfortable access by changing the bed into a slide-out design, with a clever nesting headboard that expands and contracts along with the mattress.
Each of the bedrooms capture sweeping ocean views and present cozy corners to unwind.
Two adjoining living rooms are connected sliding glass doors that open to a spacious deck.
The master bedroom features an antique Norwegian bed rebuilt by Strønes Snekkerversksted.

“The property includes a natural grazing path for farm animals. Sheep stand under the house in summer to protect themselves from the weather,” says Lexie.
The diagonals of the skigard are made of hand-split spruce, while the uprights are juniper. The couple used local woodworkers for the build.
The funky master bath features stained white oak cabinetry by Eby Construction, Fantini fixtures, and a deep soaking tub. Mosaic tile, laid in a graphic pattern, echoes the angles of the abstract pendant light.
The living room leads up to a pitched-roof alcove, the perfect meditation and lounge space. It features a bean bag chair from GAN, and a Trifecta Table by Future Perfect.
The client fell in love with this marble-and-quartz countertop, which is called Super White. The kitchen features a Gaggenau refrigerator, Julien sink, BlueStar range, and Ochre kitchen stools as well.
Countertops are made from thin, patinated copper.
The bathroom door is made with reeded glass panels. “The bathroom ended up being shockingly good,” laughs Williams. “Usually a trailer bathroom is very functional but you don’t want to spend time there.” But between the tile work, the textured curtain and the etched glass, it feels like its "own room."
The property also includes a similarly designed guest house, which can easily be used for short-term rentals or as an artist's retreat.
The kitchen cabinetry and butterfly joints were inspired by renown chef Rene Redzepi's home kitchen in Copenhagen.
