There are numerous overt and subtle nods to Minneapolis and Minnesota culture, from a Post-It Note and packing-tape artworks (a tie-in to local company 3M) to paintings of iconographic regional structures by local artists. Even the blue-to-white-to-blue wallpaper on residential levels reflects the lake-and-sky scenery for which the state is famous.

The atrium features a wealth of materials: the brick of the original structure, a glass roof, and steel beams supporting the new structure.
Spanish designer Jaime Hayon was invited to renovate room 506 in the Arne Jacobsen–designed SAS Royal Hotel, which is now called the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel. Hayon preserved the original interior architecture, but furnished the space with contemporary and reissued items.
"Over 75 dimmers were deployed to control an array of incandescent, low voltage and LED fixtures," states the firm. "21 keypads thoughtfully placed throughout the home ensure clutter-free walls and tied together the layers of light in each room with press of a button."
Each season makes for its own experience. With the popular Kronplatz ski resort nearby, winter guests can take their pick of skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, and more. In the spring, wildflowers blanket the valley, and summer is the ideal time to dive into a mountain lake. During fall, the changing leaves create a fiery spectacle.
Guests can buy fresh cheese, milk, and eggs from the neighbors.
The room can easily adapt to become a study, lounge, or entertainment space.
Upstairs, a wooden slatted wall doubles as a bookshelf.
The main floor holds a spacious living area with a fold-out sofa, reading materials, a flat screen TV, and children's toys.
The kitchen and dining room enjoy panoramic mountain views. Local pine was hand-hewn for the flooring, windows, doors, and furniture throughout the residence.
The loggia-inspired balcony, a fixture of the region's architecture, protects guests from harsh winds.
Armin and Alexander Pedevilla took design inspiration from the traditional farmhouses of the region.

Solid white oak flooring is installed throughout. The home's windows and doors are by Andersen Windows.
The ceramics studio was formerly a pergola wrapped in chicken wire, used as a dog kennel by the previous owner. Inside the new structure, a vintage Danish chair, found on eBay, provides a modern perch. The windows’ deep mullions double as display shelves.
A tub zone lined in redwood connects to the master bedroom, which is furnished with a vintage Sergio Rodrigues lounge chair and Voyage Immobile seats from Roche Bobois.
Fung + Blatt designed the master bathroom vanity, which features Agape washbasins and fixtures and an angled mirror that reflects the oak trees seen through the skylights.
Lisette Bernhoft of Design by Us planned the kitchen. The smoked oak cabinets are topped with lava stone. The pulls are brass.
She replaced the existing windows with custom JVK Vinduer designs, but could not alter the shape or size of the apertures. A VP Globe lamp by Verner Panton hangs from a corner of the living room, illuminating an RAR rocker by Charles and Ray Eames for Vitra.
Zoning rules limited the changes Mia could make to the structure’s front facade.
“From the day we got our house, I knew exactly how I wanted it done,” says Mia Dalgas, who led the renovation of her family’s 1880s home in Copenhagen’s Potato Rows district. One of the biggest transformations was the addition of a glass-enclosed lacquered wood staircase.
Atop the carport is a Hopper table and shade by Extremis.
The house features one master bedroom upstairs, two guest bedrooms, and two separate guest apartments downstairs that Wynants rents out. “Farming has become a very difficult trade. Prices are historically low and agritourism is something invented to give farmers the possibility to have an extra income,” says Wynants, who grows hops on his land. “The formula has had huge success; in the last years the tourism capacity of this area has multiplied many times.”
Only a partial covering remains over the patio off the living and dining rooms. “It’s amazing how light and airy the house is now compared to how drab and dark it felt when we first moved in,” says Tyler, an art advisor. The three-ring planter is by Eric Trine.
Architect William Massie built a hybrid prefab home for vintage retailer Greg Wooten, who handled the interiors. In the living room is a 1950s Franco Albini rattan chair, a Crate chair designed by Gerrit Rietveld in 1934, and a 1970s sofa by Edward Axel Roffman. The tall ceramic piece is by Bruno Gambone.
A stepped concrete garden planted with herbs and flowers marks the descent to the house. The courtyard is the focal point of the U-shaped structure; there is clear visibility between the kitchen on one side and the children's bedrooms on the other.
The interior features 16-foot pitched ceilings.
Western red cedar siding makes up the home's exterior. Salvaged pine beams are also integrated into the palette.
Bi-fold doors connect the main residence to the backyard, which features a large swimming pool, a 200-square-foot pool house, and an outdoor kitchen.
