Mary Blodgett and Carlton Calvin initially approached Fung + Blatt to design a ceramics studio on their Southern California property, which contains a 1950s house by modernist architect Calvin Straub.

Just as in the front, a large overhang extends outward to cover a portion of the backyard patio. The pool, since resurfaced, is still a prominent feature of the outdoor space.

The sunken seating area remains, providing a central gather spot. A faux patina was applied to the original fireplace and other surfaces/fixtures throughout the home. A circular wall defines another section of the living room and conceals a hallway leading to the bedrooms.

The exterior is clad entirely in tiles made from recycled rubber and plastic—technically a roofing material—giving the eaveless home a tightly wrapped skin. “Although we used a traditional gabled form, we wanted to clean it up quite a bit,” says Bruns.
“We chose to have a very big kitchen,” says Egelund. “I love it when people cook together.” The kitchen is by Egelund’s brand Vipp, and is a design that was developed more than 14 years ago. The couple have the same kitchen in black in their Copenhagen apartment but decided that the warm gray color was better suited to the coastal setting of the summer house.
Designer Bryan Boyer and lawyer Laura Lewis bought their townhouse in Lafayette Park in 2015, the same year the storied co-op joined the National Register of Historic Places. Their restoration included laying slate floor tiles the same size as the original linoleum squares, hanging modular Dieter Rams wall shelving, and adding appliances by Fisher & Paykel.
Each of the two bathrooms feature original colored tile, fixtures, and frosted glass detailing.
The multi-level property offers a private rural oasis, all while being less than two hours from Manhattan. As tribute to his aerospace training, Kornley designed the home to feature a sweeping front overhang and angled garage, reminiscent of an airplane wing.

Located three miles outside of Santa Fe, the sprawling estate offers a convenient desert escape, complete with thriving gardens, lush landscaping, and multiple shaded areas.
The post-and-beam ceilings continue into the kitchen where blue patterned floor tiling adds a playful pop of color against the wooden cabinetry and sleek black appliances.
