“We wanted to create a showplace for the community, a space to bring people together,” says Frederik Frede, the site’s founder and creative director. “The goal was to make it cozy, without the feeling of a showroom.” The designer pad also boasts an Epson projector and Burmester audio system.

At one end of the space, which is topped by a barrel ceiling, a hammock offers a tantalizingly cozy place to nap.
Rather than throwing away and replacing the existing French doors, paint was removed from the doors and their corresponding interior shutters by sandblasting.
The open-plan living spaces act like a “giant kitchen” that invites guests to mingle throughout the house. The white rug anchors the living room furniture, which includes two red couches from Room and Board and a coffee table and end tables that were thrift-store finds.
Roberston opted for commercial storefront doors over sliding glass ones for the back of the house. "It's the least expensive way to get a wall of glass," he says. The only drawback: The doors automatically lock when they close so Freeman and Feldmann have to be sure to always have keys on hand.
The addition to the second floor accommodates a master suite as well as a family room and office space, which is used by Satoko. The filing cabinet was a Craigslist find.
