"We work with the human body and mind in the center, and around it we build on the site and the cultural heritage of the environment around it," explains Sundberg of his approach to design. "This is more important than any kind of abstract constructs. Architecture is about emotional belonging, about the functions of the body and the mind, about what kind of social and emotional space we want our clients to be set into. This project is about these themes."

"In response to the brief and the tapered shape of the site, we started off with two
pavilions that ran parallel to the northern and southern boundaries. This approach
resulted in an overlap of both structures. The intersecting part of the north wing
was sliced off and made space for the central entrance and foyer. This naturally
developed roof form is a contextual response to the outstanding alpine landscape" Daniel says.

Sustainable strategies were reflected early in the planning stages of the residence. Instead of demolishing the original house, Malcolm Davis and the homeowners opted to carefully dismantle the home in order to salvage lumber and other materials, some of which were repurposed into the final home.
