Composed of overlapping cubes of different sizes, the Gjøvik house by Danish firm Norm Architects gracefully embraces its hillside terrain—naturally blending in with its stunning surroundings near Mjøsa Lake an hour north of Oslo.
While shopping for containers, Hill was instantly drawn to this one’s existing blue color and chose to buy it and leave it as is. Poteet added floor-to-ceiling sliding doors to allow light in, as well as a cantilevered overhang to shade a window on the left side, which houses a small garden storage area.

Wendy collects vintage lamps. Outlets were strategically placed during construction. Wood shelves are salvaged framing lumber from the original house.
More salvaged framing lumber used as cabinet fronts. Steve built the light fixture over the island with gas pipe. No UL listing. 20 year old Viking and Subzero were free from generous friends embarking on there own remodel.
A workspace, bedroom, and bath comprise each of the two studios; an early riser, Lida spends most of the day painting in her space.

Architect Sean Lockyer designed a 5,760-square-foot concrete, stucco, and ipe home for a couple and their three children in the Southern California desert town of Indian Wells. The residents selected the home’s furnishings, including the Royal Botania chaise lounges.
