Edgeless School: Design for Learning is an exhibition currently on view at the Center for Architecture. An exploration of how new approaches to learning are being interpreted and facilitated by architects across the United States, Edgeless showcases nineteen K-12 schools. The Courmayeur Ski & Snowboard School's home is part of a cluster of buildings located in the ski area of Plan Checrouit, at the foot of Mont Blanc. LEAPfactory’s design for the facility, while crisp and contemporary, echoes the design of its neighbors, particularly their asymmetrical gables.

You don't need a full greenhouse to successfully grow herbs, just a dedicated spot that will get at least six hours of sun a day. In fact, your indoor herb garden can be as simple as a row of potted plants.

Studio Junction transformed a two-story apartment above Mjölk, Juli Daoust and John Baker’s design boutique on Toronto’s busy Dundas Street West, into a tranquil space. A courtyard joins the living room and the open kitchen and dining area.

The house's triangular shape effectively blocks sight of a large wall that stands nearby. "The form of the plan really follows out of making the best for the garden and the views," Koolhaas says.

Taking the idea of an outer wall, and the concept of a shoji screen, to an extreme end, Ban wrapped the open triangular space of this contemporary home with large drapes, which provide an almost surreal quiet in and separation from the vast metropolis.

Triangular–, square–, and diamond-shaped wooden boxes have magnets embedded into the sides so that they can join together to create endless geometric patterns that function as a super beautiful desktop organizer. Made by Japanese brand Colors, the MagContainers are available in Walnut, Japanese quince, and Tamo wood.

Here's another view of the terrace pulled back a bit. The sharp, triangular form of the building is echoed by the windows and lights. It's also rather low and small, emphasizing the human scale of the care given inside.

Untreated for forms a sunshade on the exterior.

The exterior of the structure is wrapped with board-and-batten boards that have been milled locally and finished with a dark stain. It’s balanced out by sections and accents made with natural pine and cedar.

At the Mill Valley home designed by architect Chris Deam for residents Jack and Ellen Corrigan, the view begins from the top. Sun studies of the steeply sloped site informed the choice for a standing-seam metal, diagonal ridge roof, which Chris refers to as the home’s “fifth facade”.

Large folding doors open up a new Garden room to the rear yard deck.

The landscape was designed by Raymond Jungles to be "cultivated wild" with native trees and grasses amid a bed of oolite stone.

Along the Geiranger-Trollstigen road in western Norway, Oslo-based Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter designed a footpath that traverses rocky terrain before terminating at a scenic overlook. “For me, this is one of the most visionary contemporary architecture projects,” photographer Ken Schluchtmann says. “It doesn’t destroy the landscape, but is instead fitted perfectly into it.”

The newly expanded kitchen/dining area opens to the deck via doors from Hope’s Windows. There a pair of Butterfly chairs from Circa50 joins water-resistant resin Daniel planters by Crescent Garden. “So now, after essentially scooping out the entire interior of the previous house, we’ve got a great place—and, by far, the best-looking backside (of a house) in northwest Washington, DC,” Daniel says.

The 645-square-foot boat is built on a frame made of anodised, steel H-beams. The exterior is covered with pine slats. The bedroom has a custom double bed that overlooks the water.

Kajakhuset by In Praise of Shadows This “kayak house” is a sleek boathouse with a utilitarian interior that can be adapted for myriad other uses. Constructed like Legos from similar pieces of wood, the structure is capped by two glass doors.

Kayaks and windsurfing equipment are stored in the main cedar-clad volume.

The plan of this house in British Columbia by Vancouver architects Heather Howat and David Battersby of BattersbyHowat Architects revolves around a rocky outcropping lush with life that acts as the home’s central atrium. The granite was left intact in order to serve as the nucleus of the courtyard, and the walls of windows draw a wealth of natural daylight into the back of the building.
