The space also features a large central island that’s topped with quartz counters and illuminated by an overhead skylight.
Originally built in 1954, this single-story home in Decatur, Georgia, was renovated by architects Bud Shenefelt and Jennifer Pindyck from 2016 to 2017. A new addition stands in front, connected to the original structure by a black-painted entry hallway.

A bookcase was built along the 30-foot long anchor wall in the large living space. The shelves are inset several inches away from the glass walls on either side, intended to create a floating effect that mirrors the way the house itself floats above the ground.
The surface of the cabinet doors are made from saw cut veneer, which Bjerre-Poulsen says gives the design a very tactile element. "You can see and feel the groves from the saw on the surface."
