Sichuan pepper is named for the mountainous region in China where it has been grown for centuries. Called "flower pepper" in China, this spice rare in Europe is not actually a pepper. Belonging to the Rutaceae, that gather the citrus framily, its berries are more reminiscent of a fruit than a peppercorn.
