The focus of the renovation was the kitchen, where the textures of tiles and brickwork play backdrop to considered, bespoke carpentry.
One of the owners is a chef, so the kitchen, featuring HAY Revolver bar stools,  naturally takes centerstage. Although it opens to the living room, the imposing butcher block ensures that cooks can be sealed away when maximum concentration is needed.
A small two-burner cooktop and a built-in mini-fridge offer the perfect amount of functionality for the homeowner's needs.
The open-plan kitchen-and-dining space features a Douglas fir ceiling and ceiling beams and polished concrete floors.
Set in a heritage brick building in Montreal, this apartment maintained the brick wall in the kitchen to evoke the building's industrial heritage. The brick was painted white to brighten the space.
Harding went for simplicity in the kitchen, which features white backsplash tiles from Ceramica Vogue, a Ceaserstone countertop in Pure White, a Blanco sink with a Milli Inox fixture, and suface-mounted lights.
The new oak staircase functions as the “backbone” of the home, connecting the more private spaces upstairs with the open-plan living and dining space on the ground floor.
The well lit kitchen is fitted with all new high-end appliances, including a Bosch oven, grill, and induction hob with a Cooke & Lewis extractor above. A CDA washing machine and dishwasher are also neatly hidden within the units.

The kitchen echoes the bathroom in its finishes, including the Silestone countertop, IKEA cabinets, and Dal Tile backsplash. The space-saving fridge and range are from Blomberg.
The kitchen was designed to blend with the open floor plan. The SMEG refrigerator was chosen to feel like a piece of furniture and many of the household items add a sculptural quality.
A built-in Liebherr refrigerator pairs well with the bright white cabinets and concrete floors.

The functional one-wall kitchen is open to the first floor dining and living area.
Part of the design brief was to integrate this vibrant tapestry, titled Orion M.C., by Victor Vasarely. "The work of art is naturally lit by the white opal glass roof lights and is viewed through a glass wall from the dining room into the stair well," Murcutt said.
