The roofline of the Tind house prototype, designed by Claesson Koivisto Rune for prefab company Fiskarhedenvillan, has more conventional Swedish gables than the flat-roofed modernism of typical prefab units.

To inform the color palette for this interior renovation in Stockholm, NOTE Design Studio began with three inspirational images. The sculptural fireplace, covered in plaster, contrasts with oak parquet floors.

“We took away a very thick, heavy staircase that led to the loft, and designed one that had a much lighter look,” Wåhlin says. “The new one, made of steel, looks simple and indeed light—but is in fact super heavy and was a real challenge to construct.”

The Gregory Residence is a masterclass example in design. Furnished by renowned New Hope woodworker George Nakashima, this private and rustic home offers ingenious versatility over its 1,644 square feet of space on a 10-acre lot.

Illuminated by a String Light from Flos, the bedroom embraces the loft’s palette with a side table, duvet, and pillows by HAY.

The Bossel family moved into their home a year ago from an apartment in central Stockholm that was half the size.

To inform the color palette for this interior renovation in Stockholm, NOTE Design Studio began with three inspirational images. “We let our gut feelings lead us,” says architect Susanna Wåhlin. They chose a picture of a woman in a cashmere coat (for its softness and style), a plaza in Rome (for its timelessness), and a pair of sand-colored sneakers (for its laid-back connotation). The palette is apparent in the kitchen, where a STRIPE rug from Kinnasand accents the family’s dining table, framed by chairs and a hanging lamp by Gubi.

The Tind’s windows are few, but oversized, and allocated to the most important walls. The firm explains that every opening, window, and door is set flush with the interior and the “thicknesses of the joists are disguised by bevelling the niche,” which allows for a rhythmic effect on the facade. A finished attic can be the perfect spot for a private—and quiet—home office.

A custom blue-gray built-in storage unit, which includes shelving, cupboards, and drawers, runs throughout the home, connecting the rooms. “The tone is calm and creates a dark base,” Wåhlin says. “The apricot pink, together with the sandy colors, reflect light but give a warmth to the space and contrast with the blue tones. Together, they become dynamic.”

The storage unit continues in the living room, marked by a Tiki sofa by local design company Fogia. NOTE designed the stool as well as the coffee table, which was created for the French brand La Chance as part of a series called Zorro.

The living room is outfitted with the Stockholm Wool Rug from Ikea, a Noguchi table by Isamu Noguchi for Herman Miller, and the Neo Sectional Chaise Left by Niels Bendtsen from DWR.

The built-in niches were among the architect's takeaways from a visit to Corbero's residence outside of Barcelona. "You can see [the influence] throughout the store," Wannberg says. "There's a heavy feeling through the grey colorway but with a ceratin lightness in shapes and details." The shoes were created in collaboration with South African artist Esther Mahlangu.

"A retail space needs to combine inspiration and sales," Wannberg explains. "It must be inspiring enough for people to visit merely for the design but also sell products without screaming."

The cord—usually the afterthought of any lamp—shines in this simple, clever lighting solution. Supported by a near-invisible clear frame, the orange cord offers shade, base, and power to this unexpected piece. You can find this minimalist fixture here.

...a record player! The music selection in my room was eclectic: Elton John, Toto, Ola Magnell, Madonna, and a handful of others; unfortunately (or fortunately?) there was no Abba. I wonder if those records were reserved for the ultra swanky rooms?

The bar is located on the ground floor and has a steady rotation of DJs and live bands to entertain guests. It's also open to the public.

It is about the creation of products rather than the products themselves, says Oki Sato of the Nendo installation in the entrance hall of Stockholm Furniture Fair. 80 lasercut sheets of Forex foam board take on mountain-like shapes when stretched, and create a partly invisible landscape surrounding examples of Nendo’s designs up through the last decade.

This stunning concept, a bid to design a future-forward skyscraper for Stockholm, appears like a kind of living building, with the terraced, diamond-shaped facade that acts like a multi-story trellis. Berg | C.F. Møller Architects conceived of this 34-story structure as a beacon, and its airy form and clean finish certainly would stand as a shining example of the Scandinavian aesthetic.

Speaking of swanky, here's another view of one of the suites, showing the living room.

The bathrooms are crisp and uncluttered with toiletries by Face Stockholm. Scandic (like Sweden in general) has a strong environmental commitment. The bathrooms have dual-flush toilets (pretty standard in Europe), larger pump bottles rather than single-use throwaways for shampoo and soap, and a sign that says "80 percent of guests reuse towels." Nothing like the bandwagon effect to motivate people to be more conscious of the resources they use! On a related note, you have to insert your key card into a socket to turn on your room's lights. Not only does it ensure that the lights will be off when you depart, your card will always be right next to the door—great for those (such as myself) who frequently misplace small things.

Here's another suite in the hotel, which is similar to the one in which I'm staying. My junior suite is a corner room located on the fifth floor overlooking the neoclassical rooftops of the Norrmalm district, and the bustling intersection of Kungsgatan and Vasagatan. It's kitted out with high ceilings, loads of natural daylight, desk, flat-screen T.V., sofa, and...

Here's one of the hotel's 391 rooms, a junior suite. In terms of amenities, there's a complimentary breakfast, free WiFi, hair dryers, television, toiletries, and safe for all rooms. Rooms range from a 1182 SEK Cabin ($175) to a 3222 SEK ($482) Master Suite. Be forewarned: though the lower price of cabin rooms is tempting, they do not have windows.

The interiors are by local firm Koncept. While the lobby is a mix of rich colors and textures, the corridors are monochromatic with quotes emblazoned on the walls. The patterns on the carpet are inspired by Stockholm's manhole covers.

The project came with an unexpected surprise: the designers didn't get a real overview of the site until after demolition, which inspired some last-minute changes.
