The diagonal redwood slats and geometric structure are wonderfully accentuated by the snow bank covering the backside of the cabin.

This collapsible bar, launched in the winter of 2010/2011, is an annual happening spanning December to February. The bar is lifted into place on the rooftop of the Hotel Bayerischer Hof, in the heart of Munich, every November. The construction is based on the idea of a mobile, modular polar station featuring the essential expedition boxes. These are arranged on the 120 sqm area and serve as compliments to the bar elements: barstools, tables, lights and heating poles, as well as serve as display cases for winter wear, cool drinks and giant bottles of Moët & Chandon. The expedition boxes further serve as carriers for the entirety of the bar and its equipment, so the party can be packed up as quickly as an astronaut blasting off from an Arctic getaway. In close collaboration with Italian fashion brand Stone Island, HANSANDFRANZ also designed the blankets and lounge cushions for the Polar Bar.

Big Ted Wooly Creature, $125 at the Dwell Store From Scottish designer Donna Wilson, the Big Ted Wooly Creature is a soft, sweet rendering of a bear. As Wilson indicates on her website, Big Ted loves cheese and pickle sandwiches and he dislikes shopping. The handmade creature is crafted from 100 percent lambswool and is stuffed with a soft polyester filling.

The A-frame here looks both rustic and modern, especially with its orange shutters.

"The windows are my favorite feature. I've loved seeing the colors change in the fall, snow in the winter, and bears in the spring," says Andrea.

With post-and-beam construction, a thin roof profile, and an open floor plan that facilitates an interplay between the interior and exterior, the Dwell Prefab Palm Springs by Turkel Design bears all the signatures of the architecture firm. A sink located on lower level was installed as a place to wash off sand after returning from the beach—which is just a 10-minute walk away. The sink, wall, and flooring surrounding it are made of marés. Part of the flooring bears resembles to terrazzo; called "trespol," it's a mix of cement, marés powder, and small pebbles. Unlike terrazzo, the top surface of trespol is not polished.
