On an existing house from the 80`s, the programmatic needs of its new inhabitants imply its preparation for their new life.
The general volumetry is modified with two significant and symmetrical operations. From a geometry that replicates the existing slopes, a translucent structure that veils the front of the house and a light roof that makes habitable the back terrace habitable.
The project tries to respect the language of the existing house but resignifying it, seeking the maximum use the available resources and demolishing as little as possible. The materials used in both interventions with new techniques replicates the drawing of the existing metal roof, making the boundaries between the present and the past blurred.
The ground floor is restructured with simple operations. The kitchen is expanded under an existing gallery with windows that enhance the connection with the outdoors, and a room is merged with the circulation space to create the new family gathering area. On the upper floor, the available surface of an unused terrace is utilized to accommodate the master bedroom, organizing all the family's private programs there.
The front mesh is covered by perennial vegetation, where reality and fantasy construct a new landscape for both the family gathering area on the ground floor and the expansion of the children's rooms on the upper floor. Both programs are connected not only by the light structure but also by a lightweight staircase that introduces a new circulation and reinforces the programmatic union.
