White House Blue Door

Honoring simplicity and tradition, this home was transformed from a confused and confined, arts and crafts meets mission dwelling, to a crisp, spacious, warm, and welcoming family home. A craftsman’s cottage on the Long Island Sound, the home’s white-on-white exterior offers a clean canvas to enhance the streamlined view of the water. The design pays tribute to the location’s natural landscape by preserving and highlighting the views with subtlety and nuance. As a primary design element, the bold color scheme, comprised of white with splashes of blue, gray, and black, complements and invites the exterior landscape. The kitchen utilizes receding color to reflect the view of the sound. The kitchen islands are chalk tone navy, and the cabinets are wood tone with glass fronts and backs. Elements of the home that offer a sense of purity and classicism include clean board joints on the planked ceilings, crisply lined bookshelves, and non-mitered bluestone on the fireplace. With french doors, comfy seating, and a big television centered over the fireplace, the living room rejects formality and offers a cozy space for relaxed family time.
