Searl Lamaster Howe was commissioned to design the refurbishment of this 3-bedroom unit at the Ritz Carlton Residences. The unit features a sophisticated palette of materials anchored by dark ash floors. SLH took advantage of the ample natural light to create an elegant black and white kitchen as a back drop to the formal dining room. The kitchen’s unique feature is the perfectly clean island, with no sink or cooktop interrupting the stone slab to show the natural variation of light and dark veining. Hence all the appliances and work functions line the side walls. The built-in cabinets are custom in a black-stained rift-cut oak, unfilled to show off the wood’s texture. Accents of white below the island and inset in the range wall provide a striking contrast. SLH pushed for a predominately dark palette, making the marble pop, diminishing the appliances, bringing the entertaining experience into the kitchen. Additionally, a wet bar was included with a hidden refrigerator around the corner in the living space as an extension of the open kitchen concept. This provides a unique space in the condo to elevate the ability to host and socialize with guests.
