Designed by renowned architect W.G. Clark, this rare-to-the-market residence exhibits all the telling features of his singular style combined with the iconic and stoic beauty of European modernism from the 1930s. Built with 17-inch-thick solid concrete walls (with air gap for insulation), custom Hope’s steel windows, 10-inch Corning glass block, visible steel girders, and concrete interior walls, this impressive dwelling blurs the lines between the interior and the surrounding forest and waterway.

Set on a promontory overlooking the brackish “Gordon’s Creek” with nearly 600 feet of frontage, the home affords views of the water that change dramatically over the long fall and spring seasons, the hot summers, and the extremely mild winters. The private dock offers many opportunities for boat enthusiasts and other water sports year round. This idyllic property enjoys extreme privacy, yet is only six miles from all the amenities Williamsburg has to offer.

The current (second) owner has just completed an extensive interior renovation, bringing to the home a timeless modernist aesthetic. Borrowing from design icons Pierre Chareau and Jean-Michel Frank, the renovation focused on the beauty of raw materials and textures to create a rich and soulful living environment — while still respecting Clark’s overall vision for the home. Most of the home’s furnishings will be available as a separate transaction.

The home is located in the upscale town of Williamsburg, VA, just under an hour from the capital city of Richmond and the Richmond International Airport (direct flights to NYC are approximately one hour). Washington D.C. can be reached by car in under 2.5 hours.
