To maximize curb appeal, three of the garage bays were designed to be drive-under, obscuring them entirely from any vantage point. The single bay was designed to be a drive around, which eliminates the view of the garage bay from the street level and provides increased privacy.

As the entryway is the connection point between the two wings, it required a unique design feature. Incorporating a bridge into the design resulted in a commanding entrance that felt grand and stately. The bridge continues from the exterior front veranda into the home through the front foyer and allowed for a continuity of exterior materials to flow into the interior.

The design incorporates tall ceilings and large oversized windows that open the home up, providing clear sightlines outward to harmonize the design with the surrounding landscape. The windows brighten and lighten the space, balancing against the heavier details of the timber beams and stone used throughout the interior.

All primary spaces on the main floor are oriented to the fantastic views the property offers. Because the clients wanted to capture the views from every angle, the great room and dining room wall was recessed back to enable the design to include more windows and open the space.

The entryway bridge feature allowed for light and landscaping at the basement level, which was utilized to create an alluring indoor courtyard. Sequestered from the public realm it offers a calming ambience, the sanctuary is enhanced with the soft reverberations of a tricking water feature and fireplace.

A fusion of traditional and modern influences, this residence projects an inviting and luxurious appearance. By balancing traditional materials with strong horizontal forms, the design combines the simplicity and openness of contemporary design with the comfort and elegance of tradition. Mixing flat rooflines with pitched peaks resulted in a unique look and further enhanced the traditional elements of the design. The residence was designed to capitalize on the site - one of the most spectacular lots within Calgary, providing astounding city and valley views from every angle off the rear. To match the shape of the property, and to maximize the rear width, the design was dialed five degrees outward. This also allowed each room within the home to capitalize on the views it offered. The public and private spaces were designed as distinct wings to maintain privacy and separation while creating varied perspectives on the surrounding landscape. Simply arranged, the interior spaces are oriented to the fantastic views afforded by the property and proportioned to allow an abundance of natural light to cascade inward, infusing the home with a sense of sunny spaciousness. A bridge connects the main level wings, with a central overlook outward to harmonize the design with the surrounding landscape.
